About this deal

Backstory of a Legend, which features Mick Taylor, the late Alan Douglas and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Stevens, Joe Satriani, Leonard Nimoy and a few other Hendrix intimates and devotees in the ultimate followup to his seminal work started at Guitar World thirty years ago. Some of the songs work better than others; the original ‘Heart full of Soul’ and ‘For your Love’ for instance are never going to be bettered while ‘Shapes of Things’ and ‘Morning Dew’ both of which stick to the Rod Stewart versions fare much better, and the Buddy Guy and Billy Gibbons tracks are superlative. The author of articles and books on the music of Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa and Albert King, among others, his latest project is the forthcoming book, Hendrix Now! Beck set the stage ablaze with incredible live versions of "For Your Love", "Beck's Bolero", "Cause We've Ended As Lovers", "Big Block", "Over Under Sideways Down", "A Day In The Life", "Blue Wind", and more. Perhaps not being entirely obsessed with the instrument, 'hot rod' cars seemed to rage an internal war, meant that he could look outside of the confines of 'playing guitar', sure in the knowledge that he had the 'technique'; he only needed a little practice.

The setlist reached back to his first recordings with The Yardbirds in 1966 and came right up to date with tracks from his most recent album "Loud Haile. The ever-current Beck has moved on with a new kick-ass femme bassist in Rhonda Smith and the rock-steady rhythm guitarist Carmen Vandenberg. He experimented with me, He gave me a history lesson on his career with the Yardbirds, these long bus rides he took with them, on Jimmy Page, dragging around his guitar on the ground. Then it was off to the races, with Beck leading his ensemble through a rapid-fire half-dozen Yardbirds and Jeff Beck Group rockers. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. My favourite songs from this set are the ones featuring Steve Tyler, Buddy Guy, Billy Gibbons and Beth Hart. Beck’s collaboration with the keyboardist was the cornerstone of his most creative period, and with this onstage reunion (“I am so thrilled to have the great Jan Hammer on keyboards,” Beck introduced), the faithful were satiated.

What’s funny is I did not realize that he was the one on the Album I had bought, as it looks painted on the cover. At one point during their performance of “Blue Wind,” Beck pointed playfully toward Hammer, who took the cue and revved up the synth. It was Great to see my Friend again, still playing and experimenting, and Collaborating, sharing his night with us. Gibbons, Jan Hammer, Beth Hart, Jimmy Hall and Buddy Guy and concluded with a group encore of "Purple Rain" in honor of Prince.

Gibbons, Jan Hammer, Beth Hart, Jimmy Hall and Buddy Guy and concluded with an group encore of “Purple Rain” in honor of Prince. Some in the crowd perked up when Steven Tyler pranced out, and it was, as Spock used to say, only logical that he did a version of Tiny Bradshaw’s “Train Kept a-Rollin’,” a song covered by both the Yardbirds and Aerosmith. Gibbons for a rousing rendition of “Rough Boy” and a slightly comical version of “16 Tons,” written by Merle Travis and popularized by Tennessee Ernie Ford (“another day older and deeper in debt”).

In the summer of 2016, guitar virtuoso Jeff Beck celebrated 50 years of his musical career with an extraordinary concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl. He’s also hugely respected by his peers, and is clearly and deeply committed to playing what he wants to play rather than chasing new markets. His stories have appeared in GQ, USA Today, Rolling Stone, Premiere, The Movies and the Los Angeles Times Magazine. Yes, Page may have more riffs and Clapton may, only may, rival BB in his solos but only Beck has moved on. At least I’ll be gettin to see McLaughlin in less than a month with the great Jimmy Herring opening and doing a 3rd set of all Mahavishnu stuff with John. Beck set the stage ablaze with incredible live versions of “For Your Love”, “Beck’s Bolero”, “Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers”, “Big Block”, “Over Under Sideways Down”, “A Day In The Life”, “Blue Wind”, and more.

Of course, these were Jeff Beck‘s followers, many of whom had seen him live throughout the various phases of his classic rock career, from the Yardbirds to the days of the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart, out on the Jan Hammer Highway and into the future with Beck’s 2016 album, Loud Hailer. But little did u know I would again years later see him in Concerts and leading up to his 50th Anniversary. For more than forty years, I've dipped into Jeff Beck's career without his music really connecting with me.

Les invités le sont tout autant, Buddy Guy, Jan Hammer ou Billy Gibbons se montrent à la hauteur du maitre.
